आप्लुत्य च महावेगः पक्षवानिव पर्वतः। भुजङ्गयक्षगन्धर्वप्रबुद्धकमलोत्पलम्॥ स चन्द्रकुमुदं रम्यं सार्ककारण्डवं शुभम्। तिष्यश्रवणकादम्बमभ्रशैवलशाद्वलम्॥ पुनर्वसुमहामीनं लोहिताङ्गमहाग्रहम्। ऐरावतमहाद्वीपं स्वातीहंसविलासितम्॥ वातसंघातजालोमिचन्द्रांशुशिशिराम्बुमत्। हनूमानपरिश्रान्तः पुप्लुवे गगनार्णवम्॥
And springing up like to a winged hill, that one endowed with energy, with energy, the untiring Hanumān, began to swim on the ocean of the firmament having for its blown lotuses and lilies, snakes, Yakșas and Gandharvas; with the Moon for its comely Kumuda; (Lily) and with the Sun for its Kārandavas; charming to behold; having Tișya and Śravaņa for its swans, clouds for its mosses and grass, Punarvasu for its mighty fish, the red-bodied one (Bhama) for its huge aquatic animal, Airāvata for its spacious island, Swati for its sportive swan, breezes for its billows, and moonlight for its cool waters.
ग्रसमान इवाकाशं ताराधिपमिवोल्लिखन्। हरनिव सनक्षत्रं गगनं सार्कमण्डलम्॥ अपारमपरिश्रान्तश्चाम्बुधिं समगाहत। हनूमान् मेघजालानि विकर्षन्निव गच्छति ॥
As if swallowing up the welkin and touching the lord of stars, abolishing the sky decorated with stars and the solar disc, and cleaving the clouds, the unfatigued Hanuman began to cross over that sea.
पाण्डुरारुणवर्णानि नीलमाञ्जिष्ठकानि च। हरितारुणवर्णानि महाभ्राणि चकाशिरे।७।।
And (on all sides) mighty masses of clouds, sable, crimson, blue, Manjistha-hued, and greenred, looked exceedingly beautiful.
प्रकाशनभ्रजालानि निष्क्रमंश्च पुनः पुनः। प्रकाशश्चाप्रकाशश्च चन्द्रमा इव दृश्यते॥
And now entering into clouds and now imerging from them, he, again and again becoming visible and lost to sight, looked like the Moon.
विविधाभ्रघनापन्नगोचरो धवलाम्बरः। दृश्यादृश्यतनुर्वीरस्तथा चन्द्रायतेऽम्बरे॥
And that one clad in white raiment, coursing through diverse clouds, the hero's body was (alternately) visible and invisible, like to the Moon in the sky.
ताायमाणो गगने स बभौ वायुनन्दनः। दारयन् मेघवृन्दानि निष्पतंश्च पुनः पुनः॥
The Wind-god's son went on in the sky, scattering the clouds and descending again and again.
नदन् नादेन महता मेघस्वनमहास्वनः। प्रवराराक्षसान् हत्वा नाम विश्राव्य चात्मनः॥ आकुलां नगरी कृत्वा व्यथयित्वा च रावणम्। अर्दयित्वा महावीरान् वैदेहीमभिवाद्य च॥ आजगाम महातेजाः पुनर्मध्येन सागरम्।
And sending up mighty sounds, that exceedingly energetic one gifted with a powerful voice like that of the clouds, having slain the foremost Rākşasas and rendered his name famous, having filled the city with lamentations and afflicted Rāvana, having distressed the mighty heroes and paid obeisance to Vaidehī, again held his course along the mid-ocean.
पर्वतेन्द्रं सुनाभं च समुपस्पृश्य वीर्यवान्॥ व्यामुक्त इव नाराचो महावेगोऽभ्युपागमत्।
And touching Mainaka-foremost of mountains-that one endowed with prowess proceeded amain like an iron dart let go from a string.
स किंचिदारात् सम्प्राप्तः समालोक्य महागिरिम्॥ महेन्द्र मेघसंकाशं ननाद स महाकपिः।
And from a distance approaching and beholding that mighty mountain, Mahendra, resembling clouds, that redoubted monkey began to roar.
स पूरयामास कपिर्दिशो दश समन्ततः॥ नदन् नादेन महता मेघस्वनमहास्वनः।
And having a lusty voice resembling that of clouds, that monkey, roaring, filled all quarters with his lofty shouts.
स तं देशमनुप्राप्तः सुहृद्दर्शनलालसः॥ ननाद सुमहानादं लाङ्गूलं चाप्यकम्पयत्।
And arriving at that place, he, eager to behold his friends, emitted tremendous roars, and began to flourish his tail.
तस्य नानद्यमानस्य सुपर्णाचरिते पथि॥ फलतीवास्य घोषेण गगनं सार्कमण्डलम्।
As he went on roaring in the path ranged by Suparna, the firmament with the solar disc seemed to be rent by his shouts.
ये तु तत्रोत्तरे कूले समुद्रस्य महाबलाः॥ पूर्वं संविष्ठिता शूरा वायुपुत्रदिदृक्षवः। महतो वायुनुनस्य तोयदस्येव नि:स्वनम्। शुश्रुवुस्ते तदा घोषमूरुवेगं हनूमतः॥
And (it came to pass that) those powerful and heroic (monkeys) that had formerly stationed themselves on the northern shore of the ocean, anxious to see the Wind-god's offspring, heard the sounds proceeding from Hanuman's vehement speed, resembling the rumbling of clouds agitated by the winds.
ते दीनमनसः सर्वे सुश्रुवुः काननौकसः। वानरेन्द्रस्य निर्घोषं पर्जन्यनिनदोपमम्॥
All those rangers of woods, (staying) dispirited, heard the roars of that foremost of monkeys, like to the roaring of rain-pouring clouds.
निशम्य नदतो नादं वानरास्ते समन्ततः। बभूवुरुत्सुकाः सर्वे सुहृद्दर्शनकाङ्क्षिणः॥
Hearing those sounds as he kept crying, those monkeys (sitting) around, eager to see their friend, became extremely anxious.
जाम्बवान्स हरिश्रेष्ठः प्रीतिसंहृष्टमानसः। उपामन्त्र्य हरिन्सर्वानिदं वचनमब्रवीत्॥
And that best of monkeys, Jambavan, with a joyful heart addressing all the monkeys, said.
सर्वथा कृतकार्योऽसौ हनूमान् नात्र संशयः। नह्यस्याकृतकार्यस्य नाद एवंविधो भवेत्॥
Hanumān has succeeded completely. There is no doubt about this. If he were unsuccessful, he would not utter shouts as these.
तस्य बाहूरुवेगं च निनादं च महात्मनः। निशम्य हरयो हृष्टाः समुत्पेतुर्यतस्ततः॥
And hearing the sounds produced by the violent movements of the arms of that highsouled (hero), as well as the shouts of that magnanimous one, the monkeys, filled with delight, leapt up on all sides.
ते नगाग्रान्नगाग्राणि शिखराच्छिखराणि च। प्रहृष्टाः समपद्यन्त हनूमन्तं दिक्षवः॥
And they, eager to have a sight of Hanumān, joyfully went from mountain-top to mountaintop and from peak on to peak.
ते प्रीताः पादपाग्रेषु गृह्य शाखामवस्थिताः। वासांसि च प्रकाशानि समाविध्यन्त वानराः॥
And influenced by joy, the monkeys remained holding a bough at the top of a tree, and waving their clean apparels.
गिरिगह्वरसंलीनो यथा गर्जति मारुतः। एवं जगर्ज बलवान् हनूमान् मारुतात्मजः॥
As the wind roar in a cavern, roared the powerful Hanumān, son to the Wind-god.
तमभ्रघनसंकाशमापतन्त महाकपिम्। दृष्ट्वा ते वानराः सर्वे तस्थुः प्राञ्जलयस्तदा॥
And seeing that mighty monkey resembling a mass of clouds, alighting, those monkeys stood joining their hands.
ततस्तु वेगवान् वीरो गिरेनिरिनिभः कपिः। निपपात गिरेस्तस्य शिखरे पादपाकुले॥
Then the vehement monkey resembling a hill, having leapt up from that mountain, alighted on the top of that (other) mountain (Mahendra) filled with trees.
हर्षेणापूर्यमाणोऽसौ रम्ये पर्वतनिझरे। छिन्नपक्ष इवाकाशात् पपात धरणीधरः॥
And bursting with delight, (Hanumān) dropped near a fountain, like to a hill whose wings have been clipped.
ततस्ते प्रीतमनसः सर्वे वानरपुङ्गवाः। हनूमन्तं महात्मानं परिवार्योपतस्थिरे॥
Then with joyful hearts, all the principal monkeys stood encircling the high-souled Hanuman.
परिवार्य च ते सर्वे परां प्रीतिमुपागताः। प्रहृष्टवदनाः सर्वे तमागतमुपागमन्॥ उपायनानि चादाय मूलानि च फलानि च। प्रत्यर्चयन्हरिश्रेष्ठं हरयो मारुतात्मजम्॥
And surrounding him, they experienced excess of delight, and drew near the newcomer with joyful faces. And bringing fruits and roots, the monkeys honoured that chief of monkeys, the offspring of the Wind-god.
विनेदुर्मुदिताः केचित् केचित् किलकिला तथा। हृष्टा पादपशाखाश्च आनिन्युर्वानरर्षभाः॥
And some, filled with delight, sent shouts, and some raised ululations; and the foremost monkeys fetched branches of trees. (To serve for a seat for Hanuman)
हनूमांस्तु गुरून् वृद्धाञ्जाम्बवत्प्रमुखांस्तदा। कुमारमङ्गदं चैव सोऽवन्दत महाकपिः॥
And that mighty monkey, Hanumān, saluted his superiors an the aged, headed by Jāmbavan, as well as Prince Angada.
स नाभ्यां पूजितः पूज्यः कपिभिश्च प्रसादितः। दृष्टा देवीति विक्रान्तः संक्षेपेण न्यवेदयत्॥
And honoured by the monkeys as he very well deserved to be, and gratified by them, (he) briefly said—“Seen have I the exalted lady."
विषसाद च हस्तेन गृहीत्वा वालिनः सुतम्। रमणीये वनोद्देशे महेन्द्रस्य गिरेस्तदा॥ हनूमानब्रवीत्पृष्टस्तदा तान्वानरर्षभान्। अशोकवनिकासंस्था दृष्टा सा जनकात्मजा॥
Taking Vāli's son by the hand, he sat him down in a charming tract of the woodland belonging to the mountain Mahendra. Then asked (by them), Hanumān addressed those foremost monkeys, "I have seen Janaka's daughter in the Asoka woods."
रक्ष्यमाणा सुघोराभी राक्षसीभिरनिन्दिता। एकवेणीधरा बाला रामदर्शनलालसा ॥ उपवासपरिश्रान्ता मलिना जटिला कृशा।
That blameless one is guarded by dreadful Räkşasīs. The girl wear a single braid of hair, and burn to attain a sight of Rāma. She is faint in consequence of fasting, and dirty, wear matted locks and is emaciated.
ततो दृष्टेति वचनं महार्थममृतोपमम्॥ निशम्य मारुतेः सर्वे मुदिता वानराभवन्।
Hearing the words, "I have seen" from the Wind-god's offspring resembling ambrosia, all the monkeys were filled with rejoicing.
क्ष्वेडन्त्यन्ये नदन्त्यन्ये गर्जन्त्यन्ये महाबलाः॥ चक्रुः किलकिलामन्ये प्रतिगर्जन्ति चापरे।
And thereupon, some of mighty ones roared, and some shouted, and some blustered, and some raised ululations, and others stormed (in return).
केचिदुच्छ्रितलाङ्गुलाः प्रहृष्टाः कपिकुञ्जराः॥ आयताञ्चितदीर्घाणि लाशूलानि प्रविव्यधुः।
And some elephantine monkeys in joy upraised their tails, and some lashed with their long and broad tails.
अपरे तु हनूमन्तं श्रीमन्तं वानरोत्तमम्।॥ आप्लुत्य गिरिशृङ्गेषु संस्पृशन्ति स्म हर्षिताः।
And others, transported with joy, bounding up to the mountain-summit, touched that foremost of monkeys, the handsome Hanumān.
उक्तवाक्यं हनूमन्तमङ्गदस्तु तदाब्रवीत्॥ सर्वेषां हरिवीराणां मध्ये वाचमनुत्तमाम्।
When Hanumān had ended, Angada said these excellent words in the midst of the heroic monkeys.
सत्त्वे वीर्ये न ते कश्चित् समो वानर विद्यते॥ यदवप्लुत्य विस्तीर्णं सागरं पुनरागतः। जीवितस्य प्रदाता नस्त्वमेको वानरोत्तम। ४६ ।। त्वत्प्रसादात् समेष्यामः सिद्धार्था राघवेण ह।
There is none, O monkey, that is like to you in strength and prowess. As having bounded over the spacious main, you had come back (here), you are, O excellent monkey, the only giver of our lives. By your grace it is that, our end attained, we shall meet with Rāghava.
अहो स्वामिनि ते भक्तिरहो वीर्यमहो धृतिः॥ दिष्ट्या दृष्टा त्वया देवी रामपत्नी यशस्विनी। दिष्ट्या त्यक्ष्यति काकुत्स्थः शोकं सीतावियोगजम्।।४८
Oh for your fidelity! Oh for your prowess! Oh for your fortitude! By luck had you seen that exalted one, the illustrious wife of Rāma, by luck it is that Kākutstha shall forego his sorrow in consequence of separation from Sītā.
ततोऽङ्गदं हनूमन्तं जाम्बवन्तं च वानराः। परिवार्य प्रमुदिता भेजिरे विपुलाः शिलाः॥ उपविष्टा गिरेस्तस्य शिलासु विपुलासु ते। श्रोतुकामाः समुद्रस्य लङ्घनं वानरोत्तमाः॥ दर्शनं चापि लङ्कायाः सीताया रावणस्य च। तस्थुः प्राञ्जलपः सर्वे हनूमद्वदनोन्मुखाः॥
Then surrounding Angada, Hanumān, and Jāmbavan, the monkeys, exceedingly rejoiced, sat down upon a spacious stone. And having sat them down on the spacious rock, the monkeys became eager to hear of the bounding of the main and of (Hanuān's) seeing Larkā, Sītā and Rāvaņa And they stood with joined hands looking wistfully into Hanumān's face.
तस्थौ तत्राङ्गदः श्रीमान् वानरैर्बहुभिर्वृतः। उपास्यमानो विविधैर्दिवि देवपतिर्यथा॥
The graceful Angada was there, surrounded by many monkeys, and honoured by them, even as the lord of celestials is honoured in heaven by the celestials.
हनूमता कीर्तिमता यशस्विना तथाङ्गदेनाङ्गदनद्धबाहुना। न्महीधराग्रं ज्वलितं श्रियाभवत्॥
When the famous and renowned Hanumān, and Angada with bracelets on his arms, had sat down, the elevated and mighty mountain-summit was illuminated with splendour.
