संजय उवाच यन्मां पृच्छसि राजेन्द्र सिन्धुराजस्य विक्रमम्। शृणु तत् सर्वमाख्यास्ये यथा पाण्डूनयोधयत्॥
Sanjaya said You ask me, O mighty monarch, to describe the prowess of the ruler of Sindhus. I shall describe all that in detail. Hear how he fought with the sons of Pandu.
तमूहर्वाजिनो वश्याः सैन्धवाः साधुवाहिनः। विकुर्वाणा बृहन्तोऽश्वाः श्वसनोपमरंहसः॥
Excellent steeds of the Sindhu breed obedient to the behests of the charioteer and fleet as the wind itself, carried him to the field of battle.
गन्धर्वनगराकारं विधिवत्कल्पितं रथम्। तस्याभ्यशोभयत् केतुराहो राजतो महान्॥
He rode a chariot duly furnished with the implements of war and looking like an aerial castle. His mighty standard decked with the device of an argentine boar, appeared highly resplendent.
श्वेतच्छत्रपताकाभिश्चामरव्यजनेन च। स बभौ राजलिङ्गैस्तैस्तारापतिरिवाम्बरे॥
With white umbrellas, with pernons and with the yak-tails that were used to fan him, with all these emblems of royalty, he appeared beautiful like the moon in the midst of myriad of stars.
मुक्तावज्रमणिस्वर्णभूषितं तदयस्मयम्। वरूथं विबभौ तस्य ज्योतिर्भिः खमिवावृतम्॥
His iron-made car-fence embossed with pearls, diamonds and gold, appeared effulgent like the welkin bespangled with the luminaries.
स विस्फार्य महच्चापं किरन्निषुगणान् बहून्। तत् खण्डं पूरयामास यद् व्यदारयदार्जुनिः॥
Stretching his mighty bow and shooting numerous shafts, he filled up the Kaurava array there where Arjuna's son had created breaches.
स सात्यकिं त्रिभिर्बाणैरष्टभिश्च वृकोदरम्। धृष्टद्युम्नं तथा षष्ट्या विराटं दशभिः शरैः॥ दुपदं पञ्चभिस्तीक्ष्णैः सप्तभिश्च शिखण्डिनम्। केकयान् पञ्चविंशत्या द्रौपदेयांस्त्रिभिस्त्रिभिः॥ युधिष्ठिरं तु सप्तत्या ततः शेषानपानुदत्। इघुजालेन महता तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्॥
He wounded Satyaki with three arrows, Vrikodara with eight, Dhrishtadyumna with sixty and Virata with ten and Drupada with five sharp arrows and Sikhandin with ten. He pierced the Kekayas with twenty-five, the Draupadeyas with three shafts each. Then piercing Yudhishthira with seventy arrows, he inangled the rest of luis army with a mighty downpour of arrows; and that feat appeared indeed wonderful.
अथास्य शितपीतेन भल्लेनादिश्य कार्मुकम्। चिच्छेद प्रहसन् राजा धर्मपुत्रः प्रतापवान्॥
Thereupon, O king, the highly puissant son of Dharma (Yudhishthira), laughing the while, cut-off, with a sharp and well-tempered arrow the bow the ruler of the Sindhus.
अक्ष्णोनिमेषमात्रेण सोऽन्यदादाय कार्मुकम्। विव्याध दशाभः पार्थं तांश्चैवान्यांस्त्रिभिस्त्रिभिः॥
But the latter, taking up within the twinkle of an eye another bow, pierced Pritha's son with ten shafts and the others following him, with three shafts cach.
तत् तस्य लाघवं ज्ञात्वा भीमोभल्लेस्त्रिभिस्त्रिभिः। धनुर्ध्वजं च च्छत्रं च क्षितौ क्षिप्रमपातयत्॥
Beholding that light-handedness displayed by Jayadratha, Bhima, with three broad-headed shafts, once more cut-off and felled to the ground the bow, the standard and the umbrella of the former.
सोऽन्यदादाव बलवान् सज्यं कृत्वा च कार्मुकम्। भोपल्यापातयत् केतुं धनुरश्वांश्च मारिष॥
Taking up and stringing another bow, that puissant hero (Jayadratha) cut down, O sire, the standard, the bow and the steeds of Bhima.
स हताश्वादवप्लुत्य च्छिन्नधन्वा रथोत्तमात्। सात्यकेराप्लुतो यानं गिर्यग्रमिव केसरी॥
Thereupon Bhima with his bow burst open, jumped down from his excellent chariot of which the steeds were slain and leapt upor the car of Satyaki like a lion leaping upon the top of a hill.
ततस्त्वदीयाः संदृष्टाः साधु साध्विति वादिनः! सिन्धुराजस्य तत् का प्रेक्ष्याश्रद्धेयरद्भुतम्॥
Ai this, your troops filled with delight, cried out saying “Well dene, Well done' and they applauded that feat achieved by the Sindhu king again and again.
संकुद्धान् पाण्डवानेको एद् दधारास्त्रतेजसा। तत् तस्य कर्म भूतानि सर्वाण्येवाश्यपूजयन्॥
Then all creatures praised that fcat of his which was nothing less than checking the enraged Pandava hosts by means of the force of his weapons.
सौभद्रेण हतैः पूर्वे सोत्तरायोधिभिर्द्विपैः। पाण्डूनां दर्शितः पन्थाः सैन्धवेन निवारितः॥
The track that the son of Subhadra bad marked out for the Pandavas by the numerous slain warriors and elephants, was then blockaded by the king of the Sindhus.
यतमानास्तु ते वीरा मत्स्यपञ्चालकेकयाः। पाण्डवाश्चान्वपद्यन्त प्रतिशेकुर्न सैन्धवम्॥
Then the Matsyas, the Panchalas, the Kekayas and the Pandavas, all these heroic warriors exerting their best, tried to follow Abhimanyu, but they could not withstand the ruler of the Sindhus.

यो यो हि यतते भेत्तुं द्रोणानीकं तवाहितः। तं तमेव वरं प्राप्य सैन्धवः प्रत्यवारयत्॥
Every one of your enemy who tried to penetrate through Drona's array was checked by the ruler of the Sindhus in consequence of the boon the latter had obtained from Mahadeva.
